Biography

Dr. Refaat El-Said is a board-certified neurologist with specializations in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and sleep medicine. He started his medical career at Ain Shams University, School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, where he completed his residency in neurosurgery. Dr. El-Said then obtained his neurology residency training at Vanderbilt University and finished a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Vanderbilt as well. His training had a focus on epilepsy management, including epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation including vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) and responsive neural stimulation (RNS) or neuropace. He is specialized in the treatment of epilepsy disorders, including preoperative preparation for epilepsy surgery.

In 2011, Dr. El-Said joined the University of Central Florida (UCF), College of Medicine, where he works closely with the Neurology Clerkship team and contributes to the preclinical and clinical neurology curriculum. In 2022, Dr. El-Said joined the Lake Nona Medical Center, where he works as the director of the Neurology clerkship. He currently directs the Comprehensive Neurology Clinic’s epilepsy monitoring unit and sleep lab where he treats patients with various neurological and sleep-related concerns.

Dr. El-Said is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. As a highly skilled neurologist, he prioritizes his patients' well-being and employs meticulous diagnostic methods to ensure the best possible outcomes for them.

With his extensive training and certification in sleep medicine, Dr. El-Said is an expert in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, which significantly improves his patients' quality of life. His particular interest in epilepsy management makes him a go-to specialist in preoperative preparation for epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation treatment modalities. He collaborates with Orlando Regional Medical Center where he takes his patients for advanced epilepsy care including stereo EEG, Wada testing, and surgical epilepsy management.
